Domestic sprinkler questions

Will every sprinkler head activate if there is a fire?

No. Each sprinkler head operates independently and only activates when heat at that head reaches its operating temperature. Only the head or heads exposed to sufficient heat will release water. A sprinkler activating in one room does not automatically activate the others throughout your home.

Sprinkler heads respond to heat, not smoke or the sound of a smoke alarm. If a fire spreads and produces sufficient heat at another head, that head can activate too.

Will the installation be visible?

We commonly use concealed sprinkler heads so the finished installation remains discreet. With a Reliable RFC 49, the working sprinkler is recessed above the ceiling and covered by a smooth plate. In everyday use, the flat white cover plate is the only part you see.

If the room reaches the cover plate’s rated temperature, the plate releases so the sprinkler can respond to the increasing heat.
